Job Description

The candidate filling this role will initially work with the Advanced Technology Group to produce reference designs and functional prototypes for Sepura’s next generation platforms, and will then transfer to the Development Team to take the ideas and concepts of the prototype through full Product Development. Candidates will need to be flexible enough to thrive in both the dynamic prototyping phase, and the more structured product development phase. A key attribute of the successful candidate will be the ability to enthuse, coach and mentor experienced embedded software engineers whilst they transition to the new environment required for Android development.

The main responsibilities and tasks of the role are typical of any senior engineer working across the full software development life-cycle :

  • Architectural analysis and design
  • Software Design
  • Implementation & test
  • Debugging & fault fixing

Job Requirements

Technical skills:

  • Good understanding of the Android architecture and ecosystem
  • Good understanding of the Android SDK and APIs
  • Understanding of the Android low level system architecture
  • Understanding of the Android security architecture
  • Strong Java experience, acquired on commercial Android projects
  • Experience of Android Middleware development
  • Experience optimising Android performance
  • Experience of creating build processes for Android platforms
  • Experience of developing for mobile platforms
  • Experience of a variety of modern software development tools (debuggers, static analysers, Continuous Integration Servers, etc.)
  • Solid experience of embedded C software development on real time systems
  • Experience of the full software development life-cycle (from requirements through to system test)
  • Knowledge of security issues at a product level (appreciation of the role of hardware and software)
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications, debuggers, emulators, configuration management tools etc.
