Job Description

Sepura Ltd are recruiting for a Bid Engineering Manager to join their team to produce best in class technical and written proposals that reflect our bid strategies, positively promote our capabilities and maximise the Company's winning chances.

You will promote and organise Bid technical excellence both internally and externally, work closely with the Sales team to optimise wins and margin, be responsible for coordinating technical and commercial response, presenting it for approval whilst adhering to the governance process and take the lead on managing large tender and driving responses that meet submission deadlines

Main duties:

  • Encompassing the design of viable technical solutions within the bid time frame in collaboration with other bid stakeholders (e.g. Sales, Customer Support and Product Management) as required
  • To generate a Bill of Material to support the chosen technical solutions using Microsoft Dynamics AX (Sepura's ERP tool)
  • To demonstrate commercial awareness, manage P&Ls, applying governance and gaining management approval
  • Interface with Sepura's customers as necessary on technical issues, in coordination with Sales
  • Maintain knowledge of Sepura's key competitors' technical offering together with Product Strategy Group, enabling viable competitive analysis and input to tenders
  • Extract relevant technical information from bid submissions in order to provide feedback to Product Management
  • Produce best-in-class technical proposal documentation, including technical compliance statements and written responses
  • Review, understand and respond to tender or customer requests for technical documentation
  • Lead bid technical reviews as necessary to ensure compliant responses that do not put Sepura at any technical or commercial risk
  • Develop and maintain tools that ensure that technical proposal is consistently best-in-class and is developed in the most productive way
  • Act as a primary point of contact within bid for agreed new products and disseminate this to the bid team such that tender responses are consistent and technically accurate 
  • Continually look to enhance the offers and participate in specific bid initiatives as agreed with Head of Bid, to recommend improvements
  • Strive to continually improve the quality and effectiveness of Sepura proposals, showing initiative and ensuring outcomes improve

This job may involve some travelling so the successful applicant is required to have a full, clean driving licence and their own car (travel expenses will be paid)

Additional duties may arise on a seasonal or ad hoc basis, or as the business requires

This role will require the candidate to already have, or be able to obtain UK Security Clearance

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Educated to Engineering degree level or equivalent in communications or related industries

Desirable:

  • Shipley, APMP or similar qualification 

Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 5-year experience in a bidding, Sales or system engineering environment, ideally within the radio communication industry
  • Proven commercial approach to technical and engineering issues

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of TETRA, digital radio and related digital communications

Skills

Essential:

  • Proven written and verbal English skills
  • Well-structured and able to work well under pressure
  • Experience of structured bid processes and using these to produce high quality bid submissions
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and experience
  • Advanced MS Word skills and proficient in MS Office

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft AX
