Job Description
Sepura Ltd are on the look out for a Mechanical Engineer to design PMR products, accessories and test systems. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Team Leader, the candidate would be involved in the whole lifecycle of product development from concept and prototype stages, through to production and support. Candidates will have experience and skills across the full development lifecycle from technical specification, through design and verification, and into product integration and mass production
Main duties will include:
- Technical specification and design of Professional Mobile Radio equipment and accessory products
- Assessing product requirements, defining concepts and detail design
- Interfacing to Project and Product Management - reporting progress, issues and successes
- Defining appropriate, cost effective manufacturing techniques
- Ensuring new product designs meet all the necessary requirements including defined mandatory standards, cosmetic standards, robustness testing and life testing
- Detailed design and test documentation
- Definition of product acceptance criteria and testing
- Travel overseas to progress piece part manufacture and final product assemblies
- Manufacturing requirements and test specification authoring
- Technical support to end customers and subcontract manufacturers
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Relevant degree of HNC/D in Mechanical Engineering or similar
Experience
- A minimum of 3 - 5 years' product development and manufacture experience
Skills
Essential
- Experienced 3D CAD user (Creo/Pro Engineer)
- Experience of electro-mechanical packaging (PCB housing, switches, buttons, PCB interconnects, LCDs)
- Design for assembly and test
- Experience of specifying technical requirements and managing outsourced development
- Sound knowledge of plastic injection moulding techniques and low-cost medium volume manufacturing
- Demonstrable materials and materials processing knowledge
- A structured, proactive approach - numerically focussed
- Customer (internal and external) focussed
- A sound knowledge of tolerance analysis
- Engineering process and control
- The identification of project/design risks via the use of DFMEA

- Professional Radio/TETRA/DMR/Mobile/Dect etc. Handset Design
