Job Description

Reporting to the Device Driver Team Leader, the role focuses on the development and maintenance of the existing product range’s low-level platform software, including the Embedded Linux Kernel, the DSP Operating System and the associated Device Drivers.  The candidate will be responsible for optimising real-time software components, resolving issues and trialling new development tools. 

Main duties include:

  • responsibility for optimising real-time software components, resolving issues and trialling new development tools
  • possess strong communication skills and will be comfortable discussing ideas and solutions with others
  • Apply initiative when required and will take ownership for the achievement of their own activities
  • Responsible for writing and maintaining device drivers and low-level software components
  • Investigation and resolution of low-level software faults, including scheduling issues, data corruption, resource leakage etc.
  • Trialling, integrating and implementing development tools for debugging, profiling, memory leak detection, test automation etc.
  • Embedded Linux platform software development experience of a commercial product is essential

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Excellent debugging skills - enjoys investigating and solving challenging real-time platform issues
  • Contributed to a commercially released product which utilises Embedded Linux
  • Experience with development tools for debugging, profiling, code coverage, memory leak detection etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of the C programming language
  • Experience with real-time, multi-processor, multi-threaded, event-driven software
  • Familiarity with working with a hardware development team (interpretation of schematics and practical knowledge of debugging using logic analysers and oscilloscopes)
  • Experience of using configuration management and fault tracking tools
