Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, the Senior Linux Systems Administrator will define the future of Sepura's Linux compute environment. As the role is a member of the Infrastructure team, the role holder will work on a variety of enterprise technologies including NIS/LDAP, Docker, Virtualisation and NFS/Network Attached Storage - with opportunities to enhance existing technical skills and develop new ones that may include AWS as a future business platform

Your role

The Senior Linux Systems Administrator will contribute to technology roadmaps, be the technical lead on projects to enhance our compute environment and provide break/fix and refinements to existing IT systems. The role requires the application of a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience, to ensure critical IT services continue to operate at expected levels and are appropriately scaled to meet demand

The role holder should strengthen current IT practices, maintain a culture of sharing and be keen to develop new technical skills. An understanding of emerging technologies and approaches will be essential to enhance the department and deliver value

The role requires a significant understanding of both compute and network security as well as exposure to network and firewall technologies

Your day to day

Within the IT department, you will work on key business and departmental projects, engage with our userbase and interact with DevOps and Engineering teams to deliver secure, supportable and scalable IT solutions

There is no such thing as a typical day here at Sepura. You will be supported by your manager and team, as well as collaborating with other departments across the business. The activities you will be responsible for include:

  • Define technology roadmaps for core IT services
  • Contribute to the IT enhancement backlog
  • Implement enhancement to existing technologies
  • Research, evaluate and implement new technologies
  • Provide business-as-usual / break-fix support for solutions deployed within Sepura, ensuring that requests logged via the Service Desk platform are completed based on impact and priority 
  • Contribute to root cause analysis activities
  • Proactively communicate the status, plan of action(s) and resolution(s) of issues
  • Create, review and maintain system documentation 
  • Strong teamworking and provision of guidance/support to junior team members

This job may involve 1-2 international trips per year. The successful applicant will have a full, clean driving licence and their own car. Travel expenses will be paid 

The candidate must already have, or be able to obtain, UK Security Clearance

Qualifications

  • A-level / HND qualification
  • ITIL qualification or equivalent IT Service Management certification or experience

Experience and skills

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in IT role
  • Senior-level experience demonstrated through certification(s)
  • Ubuntu Linux system administration (NIS, LDAP, DNS, Email, Proxy)
  • Automation (Puppet/Foreman)
  • NFS/Network Attached Storage
  • Two-factor authentication 
  • Proxy and web filtering
  • Virtualisation/Container technologies
  • Bash/Python scripting skills
  • License management (flexnet)
  • Wireless infrastructure (preferably Aruba)
  • Cisco networking
  • Management of firewall technologies
  • Backup technologies Veeam/NetVault
  • Understanding of industry trends and emerging threats
  • Experience of interpreting information from security analysis tools
  • Practical experience of Cyber Essentials, ISO27001 or other appropriate security standards
  • Access control and threat mitigation
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills
